ONDO Cleared: SEC Closes Investigation, Greenlighting Tokenized Asset Expansion
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has concluded its investigation into ONDO Finance without taking any enforcement action, a major win for the tokenized real-world assets (RWA) sector. The probe, which began in October 2023, focused on the regulatory classification of Ondo's tokenized U.S. Treasury offerings and its native ONDO token.
Following a two-year review initiated under former SEC Chair Gary Gensler, the closure indicates a potential shift in the regulatory landscape under the Biden administration, aligning with similar resolutions in other crypto cases. With this key regulatory overhang removed, Ondo Finance is set to ramp up its U.S. operations and roll out new services.
This decision not only validates the blockchain-based structuring of traditional finance products but also highlights regulators' increasing ability to assess tokenized securities frameworks.
